After the release of my video, two important issues came up:
- People (including myself) want to see a whole video of me walking through the checkpoints, and
- People (especially myself!) want to see the threatening e-mails that TSA Spokeswoman Sari Koshetz sent to journalists
The solution: Freedom of Information Act requests for both the security cameras that caught (or should have caught) me going through the TSA’s nude body scanners with an undetected metal object, as well as for the nice e-mails that Sari has been sending around, all of which are public records.
My requests are attached below, and I will of course keep you updated on their progress. The TSA has a pattern of ignoring or conspiring to hide documents that relate to my FOIA requests, but I’m not particularly worried about having to take the TSA to court if that happens again. 🙂

How do I join you on your court case? Could this be make a Class Action lawsuit? I have no legal background whatsoever, but I’d like to support you in anyway I can, and obviously with $$$.
Hi Jorge! My original court case seeks declaratory relief (having a judge say that the body scanners are illegal) as well as injunctive relief (having a judge order the TSA to stop using them). Since that suit doesn’t ask for money, it doesn’t make sense to make it a class action. But, if you’d like to help, there’s two great ways: 1) contact your representatives with links to the media coverage about my video demonstration that the body scanners are ineffective and ask them to put a stop to the scanners, and 2) there’s a donate button at the top right of every page if you’d like to contribute $ to the effort in court.
Cleveland wins the race in first to respond that they have received my request and are processing it (I sent the document both by USPS Certified Mail and by e-mail, and CLE was nice enough to accept the e-version).

In regard to your getting objects through a full body scanner. I have not tried it but I expect that since the scanner “reflects” off soft tissue that wearing a fat suit made from ballistic jell would do an effective job in covering items that may want to remain hidden.

Please someone do some more research and testing of the radiation exposure of these machines!
Its easy enough to wear a film badge (like xray film badges, or use camera film) and have the radiation exposure tested. There are radiation testing facilities everywhere. Its a cheap and easy process.
Since the tsa refuses to test their employees (or the machines), it’s clear that they are hiding the truth…that the radiation exposure is significant.
I nominate you, Lily! 🙂 Grab a dosimeter and give it a try! You’ll earn a pat down (although maybe not if you put it in a pocket on the side of your body ;)) but you’ll still get to keep the device.
That’s how my video got made. “Someone” needed to show how ineffective these scanners were. I decided that someone would be me.
Please have a *knowledgeable* engineer do this if you are considering doing this. A dosimeter MUST be properly calibrated to the machine’s specifications and it must be read by somebody who knows how to interpret the results.
It would be foolish to use an MRI to scan a wart and the MRI may claim something is there when it’s not. You must have the right tool for the right job.
To do otherwise will hurt the efforts of those who are building a valid, data-based case against these scanners.
